4/1/2024 0 Comments Graid softraid![]() ![]() I was just trying to get at that ROD had basically grouped it together with Windows RAID by saying all software RAID is bad, which I don't believe to be true as ZFS is on par with hardware RAID if not better. There are many "NAS" or storage options with different SLA and expextations involved. The device can also be purchased with 2TB, 4TB, 8TB. So in a way.its like Chicken and Egg (OS and RAID).įor ZFS, you are looking at a hardened "non-Windows" OS especially for their Enterprise or Business grade ZFS where certified hardware maybe required. The OWC Accelsior 8M2 is available now in several configurations including a 0TB option for 799 (588) where customers add their own drives. RAID, short for Redundant Array of Independent Disks, is a data storage virtualization technology that combines multiple physical disk drive components into one or more logical units for the purposes of data redundancy and performance improvement. ![]() ton圓3 said: I am just worried because the old drive has very valuable information and data on the drive that would take me years and years to redo or replace. Then SW RAID uses system resources like CPU & RAM for its operations. To use your old softraid disk you really should use the original motherboard that created the array if possible. So sometimes small changes in OSe of even the RAID ROM, it may change parts of the RAID software and thus creates issues for the SW RAID subsystem and causes RAID to fail. Software RAID basically uses OS applications etc to support the RAID. I agree about RAID 0 as i know it is not a RAID, i was mearly asking about the software raid, and yes windows software RAID is horrendous, but what about ZFS? As it is technically a software RAID. ![]()
